The Active Living Coalition was formed in 2016 to works towards an Athmar Park that is more walkable, bikeable, and accessible to public transit for everyone.

Active Living Plan

Our first year was spent creating a comprehensive Active Living Plan, which acts as a blueprint for how to achieve these goals. The Active Living Plan creation was informed and led by Athmar Park residents. We encourage all residents and supporters of Athmar Park to read our Active Living Plan.

Community Engagement

We aim to improve conditions in Athmar Park for EVERYONE. To do so, we aim to connect with residents of all different backgrounds. We employ two Community Connectors whose job is to engage with and listen to residents about their dreams and concerns for the neighborhood. We also organize many free events for the community, such as Zumba, yoga, bicycle maintenance, bike to school day, bike to work day, walking tours, group bicycle rides, and active living programming for youth.

Built Environment Improvements

Athmar Park is a neighborhood located in southwest Denver, a part of the city that has been historically under resourced. We advocate with various city departments and our councilperson’s office to provide our neighborhood with more of a voice with decision makers and policy shapers. In addition to the role of advocacy, we have identified needed built environment improvements within our neighborhood bounds: better street lighting, improved crossing safety at schools, wayfinding signage for bicyclists and pedestrians, and more bicycle parking. We are working with partners and the city to implement these projects.
