Overview

The Active Living Coalition is part of the Athmar Park Neighborhood Association and is a group of community members and partners committed to improving public health by promoting and improving the conditions for walking, biking and wheelchair-rolling.

What are the goals of the Athmar Park Active Living Coalition?

  • Increase access to safe and accessible routes to the places we work, play, gather, and shop
  • Encourage community members to walk, bike, and wheelchair roll for transportation
  • Raise awareness of the connection between the neighborhood’s physical design,

infrastructure, and the health of community members

  • Promote physical activity and increase healthy choices among community members

The Position:
The Active Living Program Manager will be responsible for the creation, ongoing development, management, administration and evaluation of Athmar Park Neighborhood Association’s (APNA) Active Living Coalition.

The Active Living Program Manager will work with coalition partners and communities in our neighborhood to raise awareness of the links between the built environment and public health and to increase public support for built environment related strategies that promote physical activity and increase healthy choices.

This position is funded through March 2019.  The office is located at 1st and Sheridan in Denver.

This is a 1099 contract position and is expected to require 20-30 hours a week funded by a grant earning $2700/month.

Education & Experience:

A Master’s Degree is preferred; a Bachelor’s Degree in public health, health education, social work, community planning/design, public administration or a related field is required. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in planning, public health or a related field.

Position Duties:

The program manager is responsible for successful completion of the following goal and objectives:

Goal: Increase access to safe and accessible routes to prioritized destinations within the Athmar Park neighborhood and increase the number of individuals who walk, bike, or wheelchair roll for transportation.

Objective 1 (Built Environment Improvements): Within two years, implement four small scale improvements that build momentum and support and improve the conditions for walking and biking in the Athmar Park neighborhood.

Objective 2 (Neighborhood Engagement): Within two years, educate, energize, and engage 2,000 Athmar Park residents about active living opportunities and increase physical activity levels across all abilities, ages, and incomes through meetings, promotional activities and events and demonstration projects.

Objective 3 (Active Living Plan Advocacy): Within two years, create a subcommittee with a goal to advocate for the adoption and implementation of the Active Living Plan by partners and local government agencies.

The Active Living Program Manager will supervise and support a part time Community Connector who is tasked with community engagement and event planning.

The Active Living Program Manager will be responsible for other duties, as assigned, including support of APNA Active Living Coalition’s other programmatic efforts.
